On occasion of the Public Service week, Heritage Malta will be opening all its museums and sites for free on Sunday 1st February.

Culture lovers are in for a real treat as entrance to practically all Heritage Malta sites will be free of charge on Sunday 1st February 2015, with the exception of the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba Temples, due to restrictions and sensitivity of the sites.

The sites which will be open are: St Paul’s Catacombs, the Domvs Romana (Rabat), the National Museum of Natural History (Mdina), the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Archaeology, the Palace Armoury and State Rooms (Valletta), the Malta Maritime Museum and Inquisitor’s Palace (Vittoriosa), Għar Dalam Cave (Birżebbuġa), Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Temples (Qrendi) and Tarxien Temples in Malta and the Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison (Citadel, Victoria), Ta’ Kola Windmill and Ġgantija Temples (Xagħra) in Gozo. One of the highlights of the Open Day will be the opportunity to visit the intriguing exhibition “The Roman Inquisition in Malta” at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu which has recently been extended to the 1st of May.

Another highlight is the exhibition “Malta, the great story of a small island-nation through 100 objects” at the National Museum of Archaeology. The exhibition takes the visitor on a discovery trip, reaching back to the geological formation of the Maltese Islands 35 million years ago until the milestone constitutional achievements of the past 50 years. This will be the last day of the exhibition and therefore the last chance to view it.

During the Open Day visitors of the National Museum of Fine Arts will also be able to watch a presentation regarding the MUŻA project.
